A vacant Daly St lot is set to be redeveloped, if only to transform it from being “a blight” on the city, as the Developers’ statement of effect has said.
DKJ Projects Architectures will look to excavate and refurbish the site on the corner of Daly St and Woods St behind the Shell service station, aiming to reveal its “positive potential”.
“The proposal aims to gentrify the site, by way of enhancing its positive features and upgrading serviceability, to encourage future development that is currently difficult to visualise, due to the site’s poor condition and constraints,” the statement of effect said.

“Remnants of the past industrial usages are still visible and architecturally it could be described as a blight on the urban landscape, at the main entry point, of Darwin’s CBD.
“The development will enhance the amenity of the area and is consistent with the use of the locality and adjacent sites.”

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was important property owners played their part in making Darwin attractive.

“You enter Darwin and the first thing you see is two eyesores, not to mention when they are left alone, they have rubbish which could be dangerous during a cyclone.”
