Defence Minister Linda Reynolds to meet with NT businesses in Darwin visit
AUSTRALIA’S Defence Minister Linda Reynolds is coming to Darwin to speak to the business community, hot on the heels of the Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement that the federal government will bring forward around $190m of Defence investment in approved infrastructure projects in the Northern Territory.

AUSTRALIA’S Defence Minister Linda Reynolds is coming to Darwin to speak to the business community, hot on the heels of the Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement that the federal government will bring forward around $190m of Defence investment in approved infrastructure projects in the Northern Territory.
Also coming at the same time is the US ambassador.
Minister Reynolds will speak at a Master Builders NT and Chamber of Commerce Business and Industry lunch at the Darwin Convention Centre next Wednesday.
Minister Reynolds said she will be accompanied by the US Ambassador, Arthur B Culvahouse Jr, and will also meet members of the Marine Rotational Force – Darwin and ADF personnel.
“Australia’s northern defences have always been strategically important and this is recognised and reinforced in the 2020 Defence Strategic Update and 2020 Force Structure Plan which I launched with the Prime Minister in July,” Minister Reynolds said.

“These defence updates set out a plan for the future of Defence infrastructure and capabilities, regional partnerships and key exercises, and the Morrison government’s commitment to local industry and business, the jobs they create and the benefits they bring to local communities. I look forward to spending time listening to Territorians, defence personnel and the businesses and industries that support them.
“The government will invest $8bn over the next decade in new and upgraded Defence facilities across the Northern Territory, a number of which I will get the opportunity to visit during my trip.
“Defence intends to accelerate and increase planned infrastructure investment in the NT over the next two financial years to provide increased stimulus for the local economy in these difficult times.
“Additional works are planned to be delivered across several existing projects, providing new opportunities for the local construction industry to be involved, including Indigenous business enterprises.”

The federal government is bringing forward investment for seven infrastructure projects in the Territory, providing targeted support to businesses.
The $190m, which is forecast to support up to 390 jobs, will be across Robertson Barracks, RAAF Base Darwin, Larrakeyah Defence Precinct, and the Delamere Air Weapons Range.
