A STORE in Darwin is offering customers the chance to chow down on some 23 karat gold-coated chicken wings on Saturday, with each bite worth around $60.
Nene Chicken, in the Casuarina Shopping Centre, are giving away free original fried chicken to the first 100 people in line from noon.
There will also be a raffle to win one of four serves of fried chicken covered in edible 23 karat gold.
Store owner Jeremy Apresto said they were holding the event to celebrate National Fried Chicken Day with a bang this year.
“It really is an indulgent treat and opportunities like this don’t come around so often!” he said.

“I think it will be especially funny when the customers are eating their 23 karat gold-coated chicken and they have gold sparkles on their lips and hands.
“Don’t forget to take photos either because it’ll definitely be insta-worthy!”
Mr Apresto said it was an expensive process to prepare the golden chicken.
“Edible gold is very delicate,” he said.
“We can’t give our secrets away, but it requires a great deal of skill to prepare and to ensure minimal wastage.
