DARWIN Council has finalised its myDarwin Christmas gift to shoppers and retailers, with $400,000 to be split between two separate rounds.

Council’s Christmas voucher pools begin on December 9 and January 20, with each pool valued at $200,000.

The vouchers will have their redeption time limit increased as well, with users only able to use their vouchers once every 48 hours, which Council says will allow for more customers to use the funds.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said thew vouchers would be a welcome present for Christmas shoppers and businesses.

“While this means there will be no free parking in the CBD over Christmas and New Year, I believe the relaunch of the vouchers will be incredibly positive for local businesses, customers and the economy,” he said.

Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said it was a great boost for the local economy in the lead up to Christmas.

“MyDarwin helped keep consumer and business confidence high when we needed it most,” he said.

“This is a good call and means locals can enjoy Christmas early this year.”

The myDarwin initiative has had five separate rounds of funding since June, totalling $650,000, and with the multiplier effect this has equated to more than $3.8 million being spent in the local economy.
