DARWIN Council’s voucher scheme to encourage shoppers to buy local and dine out at restaurants in the council area opens for those interested to register today.
The scheme will see $300,000 spent in Darwin retail, tourism, dining and personal care venues across the municipality to help businesses bounce back from the economic toll of coronavirus.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said he hoped shoppers would make the most of the vouchers, with plenty of businesses registering with the program.
“More than 200 Darwin businesses have registered for myDarwin,” he said.
“The program will continue until all of the $300,000 is expended.”

Mr Vatskalis said the voucher scheme could be extended if it was deemed a success by retailers and shoppers but it would need to be approved by elected members.
“Any extension of the program would have to have council approval,” he said.
