CONSTRUCTION of Nightcliff’s new 24-hour police station is under way and due to open early next year as part of the John Stokes redevelopment.
The police station is a part of a wider $45 million commitment to redevelop John Stokes Square, with 250 jobs expected to be created during the life of the project.

The new 24-hour police station will include a community space, muster rooms to cater for general-duties officers, interview rooms, car park, outside respite area for police and breakout spaces.
The John Stokes Redevelopment also includes the construction of public housing, including for seniors and people living with disabilities.

The John Stokes Residential Construction tender is currently out to market.
The new station is expected to be completed by the end of this year or early next year.
Police Minister Nicole Manison said police were looking forward to having a new facility that was up to standard.
“Police here (will soon) have a custom-built police station, rather than having to go to work in other buildings that, frankly, are not built to be operational police stations,” she said.
Health Minister Natahsa Fyles said each worksite had implemented their own health and safety decisions in line with medical and government advice in regards to coronavirus.

While there has not been a new case of the virus in a week Ms Fyles stressed now was not the time to become complacent.
“Now is not the time to lift the measures and now is not the time to talk about it and give false hope. These measures will be here for a long time,” she said.
