Qantas’ new Perth to Paris flight has taken off, and just in time for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The Qantas 787 Dreamliner departed Perth at 7.37pm on Friday and is scheduled to arrive at Charles de Gaulle Airport in the French capital at 6.35 the following day, spending 17 hours and 20 minutes in the air.
The new route comes just two weeks shy of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.
Qantas announced the new route late last year, in addition to its already operational Perth to Rome flight.
Qantas’ second direct flight between Australia and continental Europe will operate four days a week, during the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, coinciding with the peak of the European summer.
It would then be reduced to three days a week from mid-August.
The new Perth-to-Paris service would add an additional 75,000 seats to and from Europe every year.
“This route has been on our wish list for a while and we think customers will be as pleased as we are to see it go on sale,” said Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson.
“Our direct flights to London and Rome have been hugely popular and Paris is the next most requested destination so we know the demand for this service will be strong as well.”
The Paris service will offer customers the option of connecting to more than 70 destinations across Europe, including Barcelona, Munich, Frankfurt and Athens, and 12 destinations within France through Qantas’ network of partners.
A “circle fare” will also allow Qantas customers to fly into Paris and return to Australia from London or Rome on the same ticket.
