‘Do better’: New mum lashes Rebel sport over ‘design floor’

A new mum has accused retailer Rebel Sport of discriminatinon after not being given access to part of the store because of her pram.

A new mum has accused retailer Rebel Sport of discrimination after not being given access to part of the store because of her pram.

The mother, Brooke, took to TikTok to share her sorrowful tale, telling her followers she was shopping for football boots for her older son but the item was unfortunately placed on a “podium” up a set of five stairs.

When she politely asked a shopping assistant how to access them she was shocked when they said bluntly “well, you can’t”.

Though a lift was nearby, the staff allegedly told Brooke it was for wheelchair access only.

While she tried valiantly to carry her pram up the stairs with the help of another staff member Brooke said she was told not to by management.

“I know everyone’s got different opinions and people were saying ‘just take your baby out of the pram’, but they don’t know my story, and they don’t know anything about my baby,” Brooke said.

Her five-week-old daughter was born prematurely and was in NICU before being released. “I’m not intentionally getting her out of the pram to go a small distance,” she said.

“She is safe in her pram with the cover over her.”

She said Rebel Sports shop in Charlestown, Newcastle, as being poorly designed because all paying customers should be able to access the whole shop.
