Qantas board and executive team: Who is in and who is out?

There has been a massive change of the guard at Qantas, which once was Australia’s most trusted national carrier. See who is left in its leadership team and who may not survive.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth resigns from company

Ever since Alan Joyce left Qantas in September this year, there has been a senior leadership upheaval at what was once Australia’s most trusted airline.

With several people leaving the company over the course of this year and the next, here’s everything we know about who is in and who is out.

Chairman Richard Goyder, who joined the Qantas board in 2017, will retire by November 2024.

On Monday, Olivia Wirth, the airline’s Loyalty CEO, resigned. She had been the role since 2018 and with the company for 14 years. She has accepted a new position on the Myer board.

Other notable comings and goings is of course the new CEO Vanessa Hudson, who replaced Mr Joyce, and is up for re-election. Ms Hudson has been with Qantas for 29 years.

Also up for re-election are board members Todd Sampson, Heather Smith, Belinda Hutchinson and Doug Parker.

CEO for Qantas Domestic, Andrew David, retired last month. He has held a number of executive roles at the airline over the years, and was responsible for the firing of 1700 works during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Board member and former DFAT secretary Michael L’Estrange will be retiring by November this year while Jacqueline Hey, a director since 2013, will be gone by February next year.

Member of remuneration committee and audit committee Maxine Brenner will also depart by February 2024. Like Ms Hey, she has also been a director since 2013.

Airline executive Antony Tyler, a board member since 2018, is still a member and is safe.
