A fashionable Aussie CEO has shared the comical divide between how she and her husband dress – sparking a debate.
Jane Lu, 38, shared a clip on TikTok poking fun at the fact that, even though she runs Showpo, a $100 million brand, her husband James Waldie, who is the CFO, definitely doesn’t feel the need to dress up.
Ms Lu also came armed with examples.
While the 38-year-old is always trying new looks, from miniskirts to cute dresses, her husband has a uniform of shorts, a T-shirt, and a backpack. If she’s lucky, he is wearing thongs, but more often than not, he is barefoot.
He is also definitely putting his own spin on a messy hair updo, which is quite the trademark look.
Ms Lu has a sense of humour about it and joked on TikTok that he is a “style icon”, and most people online love her husband’s casual approach to fashion.
“Love that money doesn’t change him,” one praised.
“This is so real. Relatable,” another said.
“Definition of Aussie,” someone else complimented.
One joked that this proves “all men are the same”, while another pointed out that his lack of wardrobe would mean Ms Lu would have more space for her own clothes.
Not everyone was impressed, though.
Someone said his outfits were “unacceptable”, and another said you’d think he would put in “more effort” considering how lucky he is.
Another just shared that she loves that her husband loves to “dress smart”, which was a pretty clear dig.
Ms Lu said that no one has ever pointed out their drastically different styles beyond it being just “in jest”, but thinks his lack of creativity when it comes to fashion is decision fatigue.
“He has got enough on his plate, so why waste brainpower on outfits? And I’d rather save my nagging for more important things,” she told news.com.au.
“At the end of the day, I think fashion is there to make you feel confident, not the other way around, so if he’s happy in what he’s wearing, power to him.”
Even though, when it comes down to it, Ms Lu couldn’t care less what her husband wears, she admitted that sometimes she’s stunned by what he can get away with.
“Waldie is constantly shocking me with how many fancy places he’s managed to get into wearing thongs. We’re talking Rockpool Bar and Grill-level fancy – no questions asked,” she said.
“He just strolls in like he owns the place. He thinks they must assume he’s one of the owners.”
