CHIEF Minister Michael Gunner has confirmed his government is working on a second stimulus package in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
In a statement to the NT News, Mr Gunner said: “We acted swiftly with our first round of economic stimulus to support tourism operators and jobs, and we will act swiftly in response to the Federal Government’s package.”
“I’m in Sydney meeting with the Prime Minister to fight for Territory businesses and jobs. How we respond to coronavirus is at the top of the agenda,” he said.
“I’ve told the PM we needed to see his stimulus response and how it helps the Territory so that we can act quickly to finalise our second package.
“My government is working round the clock on our second economic stimulus package so that it can support Territorians as soon as possible.
“The Territory economy is on the road to recovery and I’m determined to make sure we keep protecting and creating jobs for Territorians, even in the face of this new challenge.”
It is understood Mr Gunner has lobbied business leaders and industry groups for advice on what the stimulus could look like.
