Beloved Darwin gelato shop Johnn Johnn’s scoops up larger location in CBD

A POPULAR Darwin gelato shop has scooped up a new, larger location, with some tasty plans for expanding into pancakes and waffles.

A POPULAR Darwin gelato shop has scooped up a new, larger location, with some tasty plans for expanding into pancakes and waffles.

Johnn Johnn’s Gelato will be holding the grand opening of their new location on 12 Knuckey Street this Saturday, after moving from their smaller spot on 56 Smith Street.

Owner Johnn Koenig said the former CWA building they were moving to had the space they needed to expand the business.

“This is a bigger location and we’re now working on an agreement with council to use the outdoor area for seating as well,” he said.

“We want to expand the kitchen to also start offering pancakes, waffles and more.”

Mr Koenig said his gelato business had diversified and done quite well this year, despite the onset of COVID.

“We did a lot of marketing during the pandemic and changed the way we did things by offering take home packs, which helped us bounce back very quickly.”
