Young girl injured after being hit by car in Springvale South

Two pedestrians have been hit by cars in Melbourne overnight, including a primary school-aged girl and a man killed while sitting on the road.

Two pedestrians, including a young girl, have been hit by cars in Melbourne overnight.

Police said the primary school-aged girl, whose age is yet to be released, was hit by a blue BMW station wagon on Golden Grove in Springvale South about 5pm on Thursday.

Senior Constable Adam West said the girl was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The girl remains in the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition with multiple injuries.

The man driving the BMW stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by major collision investigation unit detectives.

No charges have been laid.

Just hours later a 48-year-old man was struck and killed nearby in Dandenong as he crossed the road while sitting on his bottom.

NCA NewsWire has been told the Dandenong man’s behaviour was “quite odd”, and he appeared in a confused state on Herbert Street before he was hit as he shuffled across Stud Road on his backside about 8.30pm.

Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said a car travelling north on Stud Road struck the man while travelling with the flow of traffic through a green traffic light.

Emergency services tried to save the man, but he died at the scene.

The driver of the car stopped and spoke to police.

It’s yet to determined why the man was sitting on the road, but police are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.

At the time the man was hit it was dark, raining quite heavily and driving conditions were poor.
