Yet another celebrity candidate knocks back Scott Morrison’s call to join Liberal ranks in Canberra

Another high profile person has added their name to the list of people who have turned down the Prime Minister.

Scott Morrison has been dealt a fresh blow after yet another celebrity candidate has turned down his call to become a Liberal candidate.

Outgoing top cop Mick Fuller is the latest big name to snub a call to join Coalition ranks in parliament.

The Prime Minister is said to have approached the police commissioner about running for the seat of Hughes – currently held by ex Liberal MP Craig Kelly.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Mick Fuller is said to have politely declined the call up.

“The Prime Minister was very polite in his suggestion – it was the first time I had seen him in about a year,” Mr Fuller said.

“He said I should not discount a life serving the country in a new way.”

Instead, Mr Fuller indicated he would prefer to return to the private sector before making a run for Canberra.

“I agreed that I would never close the door on returning to public service, however that looked, whether in politics or in some other capacity,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

His rejection is just the latest in a series of snubs by would-be high profile candidates.

On Friday, former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian revealed she would not be throwing her hat in the ring for the former Liberal stronghold of Warringah.

“It’s not something that I want to do,” Ms Berejiklian said.

Last week, Channel 9 and radio host Erin Molan also revealed she had knocked back an approach to seek preselection for the seat of Eden Monaro.

But her busy schedule and her wrangling life as a single mum caused her to turn down the opportunity.

Although she didn’t close the door to seeking election in the future.

“My biggest thing in life is I never want to look back and regret not spending the time with my daughter that she deserves and now my situation has changed a bit,” she said.

“I’m very honoured to have been asked, I’m flattered to have been considered, but the timing for me right now is not right, but down the track hopefully.”

Mr Morrison’s search for celebrity candidates comes amid concerns high profile independent candidates could unseat Liberal MPs in traditionally blue ribbon electorates.
