All citybound lanes along Sydney’s M5 have reopened following a collision between a car and a motorbike; however, motorists are being warned of major delays.

The accident at Moorebank resulted in two citybound lanes of the motorway being closed at the Hume Highway, with traffic heavy from Casula.

The site was cleared about 4.15pm; however, there are still major delays, with motorists warned to allow extra travel time.

“Traffic remains heavy back along the Hume Highway to Glenfield and along the M7 to Hinchinbrook, so motorists are still advised to allow plenty of extra travel time,” a Traffic Management Centre spokesperson said.

“Due to the heavy traffic, some buses in the area are delayed up to 30 minutes.”

It was the second accident in 45 minutes in that stretch of the M5 after a truck crash at 2.45pm in the westbound lanes of the motorway.

Traffic was queued around 7km back to Revesby before the incident site was cleared.

It took emergency services about half an hour to clear the westbound lanes before the accident occurred on the other side of the M5.
