Peter Dutton has demanded his party “sort their mess out” after the leader of the Victorian Liberal Party was threatened with legal action by one of his own MPs.
Controversial MP Moira Deeming was suspended from parliament for nine months after she attended an anti-transgender rally that was also attended by neo-Nazis.
Just over a month after her expulsion, she reportedly sent an email to party leader John Pesutto demanding he “exonerate” her from the “false allegations” or she will take legal action against him, the ABC reports.
“They need to sort their mess out,” Liberal Party leader Peter Dutton told Today on Friday morning.
The demand came in response to Today host Sarah Abo’s line of questioning: “What is going on? You’re eating your own?”
Dutton quickly sidestepped, adding that the Victorian arm of his party was “up against a corrupt (Labor) government” that was “way past its due date”.
“When you speak to Victorians, they have had a gutful of Daniel Andrews,” he claimed.
“I think there are lots of issues and I think the Liberal Party needs to get (it) together down there and keep the pressure on the government.”
