A 50-year-old man has died after the car he was driving smashed into a tram in Melbourne’s east, sparking horrific scenes.

A 50-year-old father has died after a head-on crash with a tram in Melbourne‘s east on Sunday morning.
The Hawthorn man was driving a black wagon along Camberwell Road around 9am when he veered in front of a tram.
A head-on collision occurred with both vehicles estimated to be travelling at a speed of 60km/h.
The 50-year-old man died at the scene.
Emergency services discovered a child seat in the back seat of the his car however they have confirmed that the man was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.
The tram was carrying around 20 passengers though only the driver sustained an injury – a minor wound to his head.
Victoria Police has begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
They are appealing to members of the public who saw the crash or may have dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
