Dry Creek, Adelaide: Hoon rider on suspected stolen motorcycle caught speeding at more than 200km/h

A man was spotted speeding at more than 200km/h on a suspected stolen motorcycle, but they weren’t the only reasons he was in trouble.

A South Australian man has been arrested for speeding at more than 200km/h on a stolen motorcycle while high on meth.

The rider, 39, was spotted by a police helicopter just before 7.30pm on Monday speeding along the North South Motorway at Dry Creek in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

The vehicle was followed from the air as it continued along Heaslip Road where the man pulled into a service station at Angle Vale.

Police alleged the man tried to ride off when a patrol stopped the rider, but the motorcycle crashed into the driver’s side door of the police car.

The Angle Vale man was drug tested and allegedly returned a positive result to methamphetamine.

Police checks also revealed the Suzuki had unassigned and altered number plates.

The man was charged with a string of offences, including illegal use and resisting arrest, and could also face drug-driving charges depending on forensic analysis of his drug sample.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Northern District officer in charge Superintendent Guy Buckley said investigations were continuing in relation to the motorcycle.

“Police will continue to target those irresponsible and dangerous drivers who not only put themselves at risk but also the lives of other road users,” he said.

“There is absolutely no excuse for driving at these speeds, and police will continue to focus on apprehending and prosecuting those who choose to put the public in danger.”
