Deputy Opposition leader Richard Marles has described the Liberal party as a “bin fire” as the federal election campaign begins in earnest.
Mr Marles was invited onto ABC’s Insiders program on Sunday and took the opportunity to attack his opponents.
“The liberal party right now is a bin fire,” he told the program.
“And if you can't govern your own party, what chance do you have of governing your own country?”

The comments came in response to a suggestion the election was “Labor’s to win” because polls have been looking promising and the Liberal party has been engaged in some public infighting.
But Mr Marles said he thought it would be a close election.
“Any Labor person who went through the 2019 election, aside from experiencing PTSD from that … completely knows the polls can get it wrong,” Mr Marles said.
“I think it will be a real struggle.”
Mr Marles also repeatedly called Mr Morrison a “liar”.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison took steps to call the election on Sunday morning.
The vote will be held on May 21.
He said in remarks to reporters his government should be trusted to continue leading the country and pointed to a strong economy and low unemployment.
“I love Australians and I know Australians have been through a very tough time,” he said.
