Nazer Shahan, Luke Wood: Charged over Cressy Rd, Ryde stabbing

The identities of two men charged with robbery after a man was stabbed near a suburban park have been revealed. The court heard one of the alleged attackers was on parole at the time.

Two men - Nazer Shahen of East Ryde and Luke Wood of Kariong - allegedly responsible for robbing a man after he was stabbed near a suburban park have been remanded in custody.

Emergency services were called to a park on Cressy Rd in Ryde about 4.45pm on Monday following reports of an assault.

When cops arrived, they found a 23-year-old man suffering stab wounds to his back and arms.

The man was rushed to Royal North Shore Hospital with a collapsed lung.

Shahen, 20, and Wood, 19, were arrested in a nearby street and charged with robbery in company causing harm.

Shahen faced Hornsby Local Court via AVL on Tuesday donning a blue hoodie.

In court, Shahen’s legal aid lawyer made a release application arguing his client would stay with his family and be restricted to the home due to Covid if he were released on bail.

The court heard that Shahen had breached his parole on a separate matter in the District Court.

“His criminal history does not assist him. He was on parole and he knows he has breached it,” his lawyer said.

“He maintains a plea of not guilty to these charges.”

Magistrate Michael Antrum refused Shahen‘s bail application.

Wood‘s matter was heard for a brief mention yet he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

The duo will return to the same court in September.
