The bizarre case of Amanda Knox
THIS 27-minute doco explores how the world was drawn to the US student accused of the brutal murder of her flatmate in Italy.
AMANDA Knox had been studying in Perugia, Italy, for only a few weeks when her housemate, British student Meredith Kercher, was murdered.
The beautiful 20-year-old American was acused of persuading Raffaele Sollecito — an Italian man she had been dating for one week — to join her in high jinks that lead to the murder of Kercher.
Knox claims she was at Sollecito’s flat on the night of the murder - and returned in the morning to find strange signs throughout the house.
Kercher’s body was lying on the floor, covered by a blood-soaked dooner with knife wounds around her neck.
The Italian media portrayed Knox as a sexual demon lacking emotions.
She was repeatedly questioned for four days after the murder, with no lawyer present and with only a very basic grasp of Italian.
Knox claims she was abused and manipulated by the police. She became a cause célèbre in the United States, where many saw her as an innocent victim of a miscarriage of justice and sloppy investigative methods.
During her trial, Knox became the subject of intense media coverage due to her attractive appearance, apparent lack of emotion and the alleged sexual nature of her crimes. She was dubbed Foxy Knoxy.
