Man dies after being mauled by a shark at a beach in Brazil
The shark attacked the man in front of shocked bystanders as he waded in shallow waters at a popular Brazilian beach at the weekend.
Beachgoers have watched in horror after a man died in a shallow water shark attack at a Brazilian beach at the weekend.
Marcelo Rocha Santos, 51, was mauled by a shark as he waded into the sea at Piedade Beach in Jaboatao dos Guararapes on Saturday, the Daily Mail reported.
It is understood the man lost his hand and part of his leg in the horrific attack.
He was pulled from the water and taken to a hospital in Recife, but sadly, he did not survive.
It is believed the attack took place at an area of the beach where there had been 12 previous shark attacks and a lifeguard was on duty at the time, but was unable to prevent the tragedy.

Mechanic Edriano Gomes told reporters that the victim had been drinking with friends before the attack.
He had waded into the water at around 2pm when the sky started to cloud over and the sea was becoming choppy.
“It was a friend of mine who was in the sea with the person who was attacked. Suddenly, he saw the man struggling. There was a lot of blood in the water,” Gomes said.
Swimmer Ademir Sebastiao da Silva was in the water with the victim when the attack took place.
He told reporters: “As the beach has no bathroom, I went into the sea to pee. I was beside him with the water up to our waists.”
