A FORMER ‘White Patrol’ leader filmed shoving a black woman at a Donald Trump rally in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday is no stranger to controversy.

In fact, he’s a well-known white supremacist who founded the White Student Union at his alma mater, likens white pride to gay pride and believes segregation is a good idea.

His name is Matthew Heimbach and on Tuesday, dressed in a black shirt and red hat, he joined in an ugly scene that overshadowed an otherwise positive day for the man leading the Republican race.

In the footage, Heimbach can be seen shouting at the woman, a University of Lousiville student.

“Get out, get out,” he screams before others join in. An elderly man pushes the woman repeatedly in the back and not a single person intervenes.

A day after the footage surfaced, so too has Heimbach’s colourful history. On his Facebook page, he is pictured with other members of the White Student Union at Maryland’s Towson University, otherwise known as “White Patrol”, a group he founded.

A 2013 profile of the Indiana Department of Child Services worker also resurfaced on Wednesday detailing how he tried to establish the White Student Union in high school but was shut down when the school — Poolesville High School — deemed it racist.

On Facebook Heimback calls for “No more refugees” and regularly promotes the Traditionalist Worker Party of which he is a member. The party has a firm anti-abortion, anti-same sex marriage stance.

The young father labelled on Wednesday a “reviled racist”, a “coward”, an “animal” and a “trailer park trashbox” refused to take the criticism lying down. Instead, he came out swinging — again.

On the Tradionalist Youth Network’s blog he wrote that the woman in the footage was one of a number of Black Lives Matter advocates at the event. He said she shouted “F*** you, you piece of sh*t” at an elderly white male before the crowd turned hostile towards her.

“A large black woman had just shoved him after she and her crew of Black Lives Matter protesters had shoved through the solid crowd to get closer to the stage. At least one man was knocked to the ground as they charged forward,” Heimbach wrote.

“The black woman then went on a screaming tirade of obscenities and threats. The white folks asked her to calm down and that only made her more livid. Trump’s supporters were trying to mind their own business and hear the man speak.”

He claimed he merely planned to attend the event but was forced to act because “police were not seen in the crowd” and “multiple situations grew volcanic”.

“Now there’s some viral footage of several heated moments in Louisville. One features yours truly helping the crowd drive out one of the women,” he wrote.

“Taken out of context, the elderly veteran, several others in the crowd, and I appear to be roughing up the woman because she’s black ... There were no racial epithets or racial provocations from the rest of the audience or from our group. There was nothing racial about the event until BLM stormed in and made it racial.”

The woman in the video, identified on social media as Shiya Nwanguma, said she was called a “n***er” and a c***”. She said the group at the Trump rally were “disgusting and dangerous” and called her “every name in the book”.

On social media, Heimbach is defending his actions. Other users say the footage speaks for itself.
