Eight dead after horror shooting rampage in the US

A series of mass shootings across the US last weekend left at least 13 people dead and another 78 injured in one of America’s deadliest three days.

There were at least 14 mass shootings between Friday afternoon and Sunday, according to CNN and data from the Gun Violence Archive (GVA)

The shootings took place across ten states — New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas and Minnesota.

CNN defines a mass shooting as an incident with four or more people killed or wounded by gunfire, the number excluding what happens to the shooter.

Last weekend, two of the mass shootings happened at private parties, including a celebration at which a 16-year-old girl, Olivia Kurtz, was shot dead and four people aged 15 to 19 years old were injured.

Two unrelated fatal shootings last Friday by different gunmen took place in the same city within four hours and just a few block of each other.

Shot dead at a private party in Columbus, Ohio last weekend, Olivia Kurtz, 16, was one of 13 people killed in a deadly weekend of gun violence across the US.

One shooting which injured four people went largely unreported because it took place in a city neighbourhood where gun violence is a regular occurrence.

So far this year, the United States has clocked up 264 mass shootings and more than 7500 people have died from gun violence across the country, the GVA stated.

This represented an increase of 23 per cent in the number of fatalities compared to this time last year.
