US politics live: Donald Trump ally’s shock ‘not MAGA’ announcement

Top White House officials have been effusive with praise over Australia-US defence ties. But Donald Trump has been consumed with another battle.

Welcome to our live coverage of US politics.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong are in Washington DC on Monday, US time, where the green light for the AUKUS submarine deal has been given after a worrying five month review into the $368 billion subs deal.

Firebrand Republican politician Marjorie Taylor Greene has suggested she is no longer “MAGA” after an epic falling out with President Trump. Often red-hatted, she had been one of his biggest supporters but has split with him on his reticence to release the Epstein files and what she claims is his lack of focus on domestic issues.

“MAGA is President Trump’s phrase. I call myself America First,” she told the US 60 Minutes.

Ms Taylor Greene also said he some received death threats after Mr Trump called her a “traitor” for questioning his polices.

Ukraine Volodomyr Zelensky is in London meeting the leaders of the UK, France and Germany as various peace plans continue to swirl around.

On Sunday, Mr Trump said he was “disappointed” in Mr Zelensky after he claimed he had yet to read the peace plan.

It comes as the US president’s son Donald Trump Jr said the US could walk away from peace negotiations.
