US election live: Joe Biden one state away from being President after Michigan win

One of Donald Trump's former advisers has launched a stunning attack on the President, and offered a grim prediction of the days ahead.

US President Donald Trump's former National Security Adviser John Bolton has made a grim prediction regarding a potential election loss.

Mr Bolton told the ABC's 7.30 that if Democratic hopeful Joe Biden claimed victory, Mr Trump would not accept it.

"Everybody has to be on the alert for abuses of power and an effort to stay in the White House," he told host Leigh Sales.

"He won't leave graciously.

"That would be against his long pattern of behaviour."

The comments came after a day of vote counting and speculation over the US election result that has come down to the wire.

On Thursday morning US time, Mr Biden was at 264 electoral votes, having won Michigan and Wisconsin. If he maintains his narrow leads in Arizona and Nevada, that will bring him to 270, making him the next president.

I'll remind you that some media outlets, including Fox News and The Associated Press, already called Arizona for Mr Biden last night. The Trump campaign insists that call was wrong.

Nevertheless, going by those numbers, Mr Biden only needs one more state to win the election.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is running out of options. He now absolutely needs to win Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia, plus overtake Mr Biden in Arizona or Nevada.

“It seems like the path for Donald Trump to get to victory is narrower and narrower and narrower,” Republican pollster Lee Carter told Fox News earlier today.

“It’s really, really almost impossible I think, at this point, without something being overturned. I think that is why you’re seeing so many legal battles being threatened and started."

The race in both Georgia and Pennsylvania is well and truly heating up now, with Mr Trump's lead in both states fading by the minute.

It's a narrow path for Mr Trump. But it could still happen. Let's see how the votes fall.
