Donald Trump’s mugshots sends the internet into a meme frenzy

Donald Trump’s official mugshot was released and the internet went wild with memes about it.

Anyone with ‘Donald Trump getting a mugshot’ on their 2023 bingo card can mark it off, as the former US president’s official mugshot has been released onto the internet.

Trump was booked in Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail on felony charges and went through the usual procedure of receiving a prisoner number, being fingerprinted and a mugshot.

In his mugshot, he is seen wearing his signature blue suit with a red tie and appearing to scowl.

It didn’t take long for the internet to turn the serious photo into a meme, with #TrumpMugshot and #OrangeIsTheNewOrange trending on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Many X users had a field day with the jail records as they reported Trump as weighing 215 pounds (97.52kg), with one meme showing former US president Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton laughing.

Some of the best memes include a photo shopped President Joe Biden standing behind Trump and sniffing him. Others joked that the mugshot would be his new official White House portrait.

Over on the TikTok side of things, someone stitched Nickelback holding up the mugshot and singing “Look at this photograph, every time I do it make me laugh.”

Another TikTok video has the photo appearing on the once-popular America’s Next Top Model with the judges telling Trump that “he looks scared” and that “the pose is awkward”.

And while the internet continues to make hilarious memes and jokes about the mugshot, others have turned it into a rallying cry to support the former president.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) took to X to tweet out her support for Trump: “I stand with President Trump against the commie DA Fani Willis who is nothing more than a political hit man tasked with taking out Biden’s top political opponent. ‘Persecution, not prosecution.”

Others have photoshopped themselves into the mugshot, covering Trump and stating their support.

It didn’t take long for the Trump campaign to use the mugshot as a way to make money, with merchandise such as T-shirts, Koozies and coffee mugs being sold with the tagline “NEVER SURRENDER” on the Trump 2024 presidential campaign site.

While Trump supporters would take this seriously and buy some of the merchandise, the internet once again made a meme out of it.
