CNN guest Van Jones cries on live TV as Biden wins US election

Joe Biden might not have generated that much enthusiasm as a candidate, but his win means a hell of a lot to some Americans.

CNN guest Van Jones cried after Joe Biden was announced the 46th president.

“I just want my son to look at this, look at this,” a crying Jones said when asked his thoughts by Anderson Cooper. “It’s easier to do it the cheap way and get away with stuff but it comes back around. And it’s a good day for this country.”

While CNN called the election for Joe Biden, Van Jones was overcome with so much emotion, he began tearing up. He then brought a tissue to his eyes and wiped away tears rolling down his face.

After Cooper asked Jones his opinion on Biden’s win, Jones stumbled through his words before taking a deep pause and starting to speak before breaking down in tears.

“Well, it’s easier to be a parent this morning. It’s easier to be a dad, it’s easier to tell your kids character matters. It matters,” Jones said. “Telling the truth matters, being a good person matters, and it’s easier for a whole lot of people.”

“If you’re Muslim in this country, you don’t have to worry if the president doesn’t want you here. If you’re an immigrant, you don’t have to worry if the president’s gonna be happy to have your baby snatched away, or send dreamers back for no reason,” Jones continued, breaking down into tears as he fought through his tears.

“It’s a special occasion for a lot of people who have really suffered,” Jones continued. “The ‘I Can’t Breathe,’ that wasn’t just George Floyd that was a lot of people who felt they couldn’t breathe,” Jones said as he stumbled through his words.

“Everyday you’re waking up, you’re getting these tweets and you’re going to the store and people who have afraid to show their racism have been nastier and nastier,” he said.

“And you spent so much of your life’s energy just trying to hold it together and it’s been a big deal for us just trying to get some peace and a have a chance for a reset,” Jones ended. “The character of the country matters and being a good many matters.”

Jones similarly expressed himself in 2016 after Donald Trump won the election against Hillary Clinton.

He expressed frustration at Trump’s rhetoric during his campaign.

“How do I explain this to my children?” Jones tearfully asked.
