Time Magazine wants Trump’s fake covers pulled out of his golf clubs

FRAMED copies of Donald Trump on the cover of TIME magazine have hung proudly in some of his golf clubs. Well, kind of.

DONALD Trump is the master of finger-pointing at fake news. But the discovery that fake TIME magazine covers featuring the US President have pride of place in some of his ritzy golf clubs has the Twitterati in rare form.

An investigation by The Washington Post uncovered exactly where the fake Time cover went wrong. It was missing a white border and the sub heads were down one side, rather than across the top.

In response, Time Inc has asked the Trump organisation to remove the covers which had been on display in at least five of 17 Trump-owned golf clubs from Florida to Scotland.

The framed phonies feature a photograph of Mr Trump, arms crossed, eyes narrowed, looking into the camera.

The accompanying headline says: “Donald Trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!”

Above the Time masthead is another headline, saying, “Trump is hitting on all fronts ... even TV!”

PHONY COVER, FAKE DATE

A spokesperson from Time Inc confirmed that it had requested the Trump organisation remove any further copies of the cover — which is erroneously dated March 1, 2009 — from the company’s golf clubs.

The real cover of Time magazine published on March 2, 2009, featured an image of actor Kate Winslet.

It’s not known who created the fake cover, although the bar code featured on the image matches up with a graphic design tutorial posted online in 2010, according to the Post.

The Trump organisation has not responded to questions about who made the cover and why it was displayed at Trump clubs, the newspaper said.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to say whether Mr Trump had known that the cover wasn’t real.

But the Twitterverse was happy to comment.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated got in on the joke, trolling the US president with a tweet featuring a blank cover, ready for a picture to be added.

Others made up their own TIME fake covers featuring the President.

Or made up a bit of fake news of their own.

Meanwhile, the President’s own Twitter feed, usually vocal about fake and phony news, has so far been silent on the covers.
