WARNING: Distressing

The horrific attack that killed 19 children aged between eight to 10 and two teachers reportedly happened in just one classroom, authorities say.

Spokesperson for the Texas Department for Public Safety, Lt. Chris Olivarez said Ramos barricaded himself into a classroom before opening fire on children and teachers.

“Just goes to show you the complete evil from this shooter,” Lt. Olivarez said.

“It was a classroom setting, a typical classroom setting where you have mass groups of children inside that classroom all together, with nowhere to go.”

In addition to the 21 deaths, 15 other people were taken to Uvalde Memorial Hospital in the aftermath of the shooting.

Of those admitted, seven children and three adults have been discharged, while four children and one adult were transferred to another hospital in the San Antonio area.

Shooter’s messages minutes before attack

The 18-year-old shooter behind the horrific Texas school massacre reportedly sent messages to a 15-year-old girl he met online just minutes before commencing the attack that would kill 19 children and two teachers.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Salvador Ramos made three Facebook posts, which were later confirmed to be private messages, before the massacre.

“I’m going to shoot my grandmother,” he wrote 30 minutes before the shooting at the school.

This was followed by “I shot my grandmother”.

15 minutes later he wrote: “I’m going to shoot an elementary school”.

CNN reports Ramos sent messages to a 15-year-old girl from Frankfurt, Germany on the morning of the attack. They had begun talking via text messages on May 9.

In messages seen by the news site, Ramos said he was irritated that his grandmother was talking to telecommunications company, AT&T about his phone.

“It’s annoying,” he wrote.

Six minutes later, he texted: “I just shot my grandma in her head”.

This was followed by: “Ima go shoot up a(n) elementary school rn (right now).”

The final messages were sent at 11.21am local time, minutes before officials believe Ramos entered Robb elementary school at around 11.32. It’s understood his 66-year-old grandma remains alive, but in a serious condition.

Meta Communications Director Andy Stone later confirmed they were sent in one-to-one messages, The Sun reports, though it is not confirmed the messages referenced by Gov. Abbott are the same sent to the girl in Frankfurt.

Speaking about their online relationship, the 15-year-old said she spoke with Ramos daily via FaceTime and other livestreaming and gaming apps. However he occasionally sent alarming messages, like that he “threw dead cats at people’s houses”.

On the Monday before the attack Ramos also said that he had received a packet of ammunition. When asked what he was going to do, he reportedly wrote back “just wait for it”.

‘I was afraid of him’

Ramos also reportedly had conversations with other girls and women he met online.

In the hours after the shooting, screen shots were shared of a photo of two rifles which Ramos shared four days before the shooting.

Tagged in one of the photos was a woman unknown to him. While she lived in another state, the two began messaging over Instagram’s messaging platform.

Sharing the screenshots dated to the morning of the attack, Ramos hints that he has “a secret” he wants to share. His last message: “Ima air out,” was sent at 9.16am.

In a series of Instagram stories, the woman said Ramos was a stranger and the interaction left her feeling scared and uncomfortable.

“He’s a stranger, I know nothing about him. He decided to tag me in his gun post. I’m so sorry for the victims and their families, I really don’t know what to say,” she wrote in a now-deleted Instagram story.

“The only reason I responded to him was because I was afraid of him. I wish I stayed awake to at least try to convince him to not commit his crime. I didn’t know.”

Family didn’t know Ramos had guns

Speaking to ABC News, Ramos’ grandfather Rolando Reyes described the man as “quiet” and not talkative and said the family weren’t aware that he had was in possessions of the weapons.

“It still hasn’t sunk in,” he said.

“I hate when I see all the news of all those people that get shot, I’m against all that. I say, ‘Why do they let these people buy guns and all that?”
