Relatives accuse Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, of sexually abusing five of his children and stepchildren
The tech billionaire’s estranged father, who has at least nine children and stepchildren, has denied allegations of child sex abuse beginning in 1993.
Elon Musk’s estranged father, Errol Musk, has been accused of sexually abusing five of his children and stepchildren.
According to an investigation by The New York Times, the former politician and entrepreneur – who has been married three times and has at least nine children and stepchildren – allegedly began the abuse in 1993, when his stepdaughter was four years old.
Her mother was Errol’s third wife, Heide-Mari Bezuidenhout. Per The Times, the stepdaughter told relatives Errol had touched her in the family’s home, and a decade later, she caught him smelling her dirty underwear.
When she was 21, in 2009 – by which time Errol and her mother had divorced – he allegedly “kissed her and stuck his tongue into her mouth”.
“Some family members have also accused Errol Musk of abusing two of his (biological) daughters and a stepson,” The Times reported.
“And as recently as 2023, family members and a social worker attempted to intervene after his then 5-year-old son (claimed) his father had groped his buttocks.”
The 79-year-old denied the allegations against him as “false and nonsense in the extreme”, describing them as “absolute rubbish”. He accused family members of “putting the children up to say false things” and attempting to extort Elon.
Three separate police investigations have been opened against Errol, according to court records and family members, two of which ended. The outcome of the third is unknown.
He has not been convicted of any crime.
Elon, who is Errol’s oldest child, has been estranged from his father for years. The Times suggested that a “significant factor” in the “rupture” of their relationship stems from the accusations against Errol.
“The allegations have repeatedly spilt over into Elon Musk’s life as relatives have contacted him for help and he has sometimes taken action to intercede,” the report read.
In a five-page letter to the tech billionaire, written around 2010, a relative urged him to intervene.
“We really need your advice, help and guidance in these matters because we daily see these children suffer,” the letter read.
Elon did not respond to The Times’ request for comment, but in a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, he said his father had done “almost every evil thing you could possibly think of”.
Family members told The Times Elon has financially supported his former stepsister, who has had at least one child with her stepfather; offered to pay for that stepsister’s rehab; and tried to keep the children far away from Errol in California.
The stepdaughter, who is now 37, did not comment on the abuse allegations, but told the publication that Elon sends her money monthly and has bought her a car.
“Elon has always been there,” she said.
In 2011, the stepdaughter spent time in a rehabilitation clinic for drug use, and then became homeless, family members said.
At age 29, she reached out to Errol and they became intimate, he said in a 2018 interview with The Sunday Times.
They were “lonely, lost people”, he said. “One thing led to another – you can call it God’s plan or nature’s plan.”
In 2022, their son, then five, said “dad gropes his behind”, Ms Bezuidenhout, the boy’s grandmother, texted a relative the following year,

“He screamed, ‘no dad’,” she wrote.
Relatives contacted the police as recently as last year, according to text messages and emails cited by The Times.
