Pro-gun lobby in a fit over President Obama’s gun control announcement

GUN owners haven’t taken too kindly to President Obama’s emotional plan to tackle gun violence. Some of their arguments are off the charts.

OH dear, oh dear, oh dear. Those crazy Americans.

As President Barack Obama wiped away tears during an address in which he condemned gun violence across the US and announced new steps his administration will take to tighten gun controls, scores of gun owners have provided their own arguments as to why America should be the land of the free.

And some of them are, quite frankly, outrageous. We’re not sure whether to laugh or cry.

According to the pro-gun lobby, everything and anything is responsible for gun deaths — except guns. But those pesky illegal aliens are up there at the top.

And it’s not just the average Joe taking issue.

“The President’s actions have everything to do with advancing his political agenda and little to do with actually protecting American citizens,” Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said after Obama’s speech.

“Any executive order President Obama signs that regulates firearms transactions will merely regulate the freedom of law abiding citizens.”

He’s not the only one.

Texas Senator and fellow Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz said Obama’s action plan to more tightly regulate gun sales wasn’t worth the paper it was written on.

”When you live by the pen, you die by the pen,” Cruz said, adding that his own pen “has an eraser on it.”

President Obama has even been accused of lying his way through the speech, with editor of the BearingArms website, Jim Owens, calling it his “most deplorable performace yet.”

“The lame duck President has a wretched and deplorable habit of making emotional arguments because the facts clearly are not on his side,” Owens wrote.

“Obama can turn on the fake tears and grandstand to his heart’s desire, but he will not achieve his goal of gutting the Second Amendment in his final year in office. He has failed.”

Meanwhile, one Texas restaurant has offered a 25 per cent discount to customers who come in openly brandishing a gun.

Trent Brooks, proud owner of a Springfield handgun and barbecue joint Brook’s Place, “known for its brisket and sides”, chose to celebrate his state’s new open carry gun law with the money off deal, which he says has led to an uptick in trade.

Previously, customers carrying a concealed weapson were only entitled to 10 per cent off. Seriously.

A meme being circulated by America’s Young Consservatives group claims to show “how far we’ve fallen from the view our Founders had of liberty and security.”

“Putting guns in the hands of good, law-abiding citizens who will look out for each other is how we stay safe, not through suspending our freedom,” they say.

But, in a country where freedoms of speech is paramount, all parties have a right of reply. We'll let you be the judge.
