Parched pause: Trump swallows own medicine after water guzzling show
“TOTAL choke artist” Marco Rubio has mocked the US President as Donald Trump’s watery words come back to haunt him.
FOR a minute or two, there was a parched pause. But maybe it satisfied those with a thirst for karma.
Basically, a man who mocked a man — multiple times — labelling him a “choke artist” for needing water during a speech, suddenly needed water. During a speech.
US President Donald Trump has had his own water bottle moment, which critics are making into a water cooler moment.
Trump paused during an address to the nation on Wednesday to reach for water during a blow-by-blow account of his five-nation trip to Asia.
Trump first reached into the lectern, to no avail. He came up empty. “They don’t have water, that’s OK,” he said, as the cameras whirred on.
Then, helped by others in the room, he finally spied a bottle on a table next to his lectern, twisted it open, and took a swig.
He took another guzzle a few minutes later.
Observers couldn’t help but remember seeing the scene as reminiscent of another water guzzler Trump has bagged for doing the same.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump frequently mocked then-rival Florida Senator Marco Rubio’s frequent water breaks, most memorably when Rubio gave the official Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union in 2013.
“HELP ME. I NEED WATER”
“When they put Marco on to refute President Obama’s speech, do you remember that catastrophe?” Trump asked a campaign crowd in Fort Worth, Texas, in February 2016. Trump then began to mock him.
“He’s like this, ‘I need water. Help me, I need water,”’ Trump said, pretending to stagger on stage.
“This is on live television. This total choke artist,” he said. Trump held up and opened a bottle of water, saying, “It’s Rubio.” He splashed the water around before tossing the bottle behind him on stage. “Unbelievable,” Trump said.
Rubio joked Wednesday that the president needed to work on his form. “Has to be done in one single motion and eyes should never leave the camera. But not bad for his 1st time,” Rubio tweeted.
