Oxford High School shooting suspect Ethan Crumbley charged with terrorism and murder
The teenage boy accused of a chilling school shooting, which left four people dead, has been named as 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley.
A teenage boy has been charged with terrorism and murder after a school shooting in Michigan, United States.
Police allege Ethan Crumbley killed four classmates at Oxford High School with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun on Tuesday, The Sun reports.
Eight others, including a teacher, were injured in the shooting.
The students killed have been identified as Tate Myre, 16, Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17.
Terrorism and murder charges
On Wednesday, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said Crumbley would be charged with terrorism, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder and 12 counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The 15-year-old was formally arraigned on Wednesday afternoon (US time).
The alleged gunman is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility, where he has been placed on suicide watch — with someone checking on him every 15 minutes.
The prosecutor added that evidence suggested the school shooting “was not an impulsive act” and may have been premeditated.
Ms McDonald said the investigation was ongoing and additional charges could be filed in the future.
Ethan Crumbley’s social media posts
Posts which appear to have been shared on his Instagram page show the suspect also shared a picture of a gun just days before the shooting.
The caption appears to read: “Just got my new beauty today.”
It emerged on Tuesday that the suspect allegedly used his dad’s weapon in the deadly rampage.
A preliminary investigation shows that the weapon was purchased on November 26 by the boy’s father.
Victims gunned down
One of the victims, Tate Myre, was a “standout” football player and died from his injuries on the way to the hospital in the back of a patrol car.
Classmates said that he tried to disarm the shooter.
A second victim, Madisyn Bladwin, was expected to graduate this year and her family said that she had been accepted into several colleges, according to WDIV4.
She also loved to draw, read and write and was the eldest of three siblings.
The shooter’s motive remains unknown.
