Las Vegas police clear Stephen Paddock’s ‘companion’ Marilou Danley following deadliest mass shooting in US history

THE Australian citizen who used to live with the suspected Las Vegas gunman has been cleared of involvement, police said.

POLICE have confirmed the “female companion” of the suspected Las Vegas gunman is no longer a person of interest in the deadliest shooting in US history.

Las Vegas detectives said they do not believe Marilou Danley, 62, was involved with the shooting on the the Las Vegas strip police suspect was carried out by Stephen Paddock.

The Courier Mail reports the former casino worker is an Australian passport holder who may be of Indonesian descent.

She is understood to be a former housemate of the suspected killer, Stephen Paddock who was reportedly using her identification.

Danley is believed to have lived on the Gold Coast for more than a decade married to an Australian man before moving to the US, before moving to the US 20 years ago.

“I would never have thought she would be tied up in anything like this,” one friend, from Robina on the Gold Coast, told The Courier-Mail.

Police said she was not with him during the shooting and she was not believed to have been involved in the attack.

A Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman said: “We are aware of media reports referring to Marilou Danley as an Australian woman in connection with the shooting incident in Las Vegas. Given the local authorities are still investigating the incident, we cannot comment further on these reports.”

Earlier, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said police were searching for Danley and two cars in their hunt for clues as to the shooter’s identity and motives.

Fighting back his emotions in a press conference, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said police were now searching the home and hotel room where the shooter stayed.

“We have located the vehicles in question, and we are confident we have located the female person of interest,” he said.

“We have officers at his residence and we’ll be executing a search warrant there shortly,” he said, adding that the horror had taken a huge toll on the force.

“We’re holding up. we’re doing the best we can,” he said.

“We’re going to have to look out for their well-being moving forward,” he said about first responders on the scene.

Shooting on the Strip - How it Happened.

Danley is believed to be a “gambling and casino professional” who lived in Reno, Nevada. She is thought to have been a former housemate of the suspected shooter.

She worked as a hostess for Atlantis Casino between 2010 and 2013 according to her LinkedIn profile.

Sheriff Lombardo said two police officers who were off duty are among those who have died. Another on-duty officer is in a critical condition, while another was wounded in the deadly shooting.

Sheriff Lombardo said officers confronted the suspect on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across the street from the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.

He said an explosive was detonated during the confrontation, however reports of other explosives at the scene were incorrect.

Earlier, Lombardo said police were searching for “two vehicles associated with the shooter.” They are a: Hyundai Tucson Nevada/114B40 and a Chrysler Pacifica Nevada/79D401.

He also confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident and they believe the shooter is a “lone wolf.”

“We do not know his belief system,” Sheriff Lombardo said.
