THE diary of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner paints a disturbing picture of mistreatment and torture, and details how inmates were forced to have sex with women.

Written by Mohamedou Ould Slahi from inside the high-security military jail known as “Gitmo”, the 466-page memoir was made public this week.

The 44-year-old, who is still locked up for associating with al-Qaeda, wrote about being smothered, sleep-deprived, starved and sexualised.

“Today, we’re gonna teach you about great American sex. Get up!” Slahi wrote.

“As soon as I stood up, the two _______ took off their blouses, and started to talk all kind of dirty stuff you can imagine, which I minded less.

“What hurt me most was them forcing me to take part in a sexual threesome in the most degrading manner. What many _______ don’t realize is that men get hurt the same as women if they’re forced to have sex, maybe more due to the traditional position of the man. Both _______ stuck on me, literally one on the front and the other older _______ stuck on my back rubbing ____ whole body on mine.”

Elsewhere, Slahi alleged he was “smothered”.

“I had a mask over my mouth and my nose, plus the bag covering my head and my face, not to mention the tied belt around my stomich (sic). So breathing was impossible. I kept (saying) ‘Mr, Sir, I cannot breath... Mr, Sir... Please’. It seemed like my pleas for help got lost in a vast desert.”

The memoirs were released following a six-year legal fight to declassify the manuscript.

Slahi, originally from Mauritania, West Africa, has spent 13 years in prison after swearing allegiance to al-Qaeda and admitting to travelling to Afghanistan in the 1990s. He claimed he left the group in 1992.

He was detained following the 9/11 attacks on suspicion of involvement in an unsuccessful plot to bomb Los Angeles in 1999. He was taken to Guantanamo in 2002 following interrogation in Mauritania, Jordan and Afghanistan.

The Guardian published an extract from the book last week. They have since published the memoirs in full.

At one point, Slahi details hallucinations.

“I started to hallucinate and hear voices as clear as crystal. I heard my family in a casual familial conversation ... I heard Qur’an readings in a heavenly voice.”

The alleged torture took place despite a concession in 2007 by the FBI, CIA and military intelligence that no link could be made between Mr Slahi and acts of terrorism.

Sky News reported a US District Court judge ordered his release in 2010 but he is still imprisoned.
