Anonymous op-ed by White House staffer in the ‘Trump resistance’ inspires a slew of hilarious memes

AS Donald Trump reportedly storms the corridors of the White House trying to uncover just who wrote that bombshell New York Times piece, the internet is having a field day.

THE anonymous opinion piece by a senior White House official claiming to be part of a “resistance” working “from within” to thwart Donald Trump’s “worst inclinations” has sent Donald Trump apoplectic and the White House scrambling to uncover who wrote the thing.

But while Mr Trump has gone into a fury on Twitter — and, by all accounts, in the corridors of the White House — the internet has done what the internet does best, producing a string of hilarious memes to take the mickey out of the whole palaver.

Everyone from Tiffany Trump and the Easter bunny to the First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, beleaguered Attorney-General Jeff Sessions and White House Chief of Staff, John Kelly have all had the finger pointed at them.

Others have had a crack at Mr Trump’s frenzied attempts to find out who wrote the controversial missive.

The op-ed, published in The New York Times, described the US President as “impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective”.

The New York Times said the author’s “identity is known to us” and the person’s “job would be jeopardised by its disclosure. We believe publishing this essay anonymously is the only way to deliver an important perspective to our readers”.

The essay spoke of a “quiet resistance” that is working to curb Mr Trump’s “worst impulses”.

Mr Trump hit back hard, tweeting that if “the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once!”

This morning, Mr Trump continued his tirade, tweeting, “The Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going Crazy — & they don’t know what to do.”

Top Trump staffers such as Vice President, Mike Pence, and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, have denied they penned the essay, while White House spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, called the anonymous author a “coward”.
