Israel takes out 100 ‘targets’ in Lebanon in one operation
During the attacks, the IDF say they managed to “eliminate” the launcher used in a rocket barrage which killed a 24-year-old man in the Israeli city of Ma’alot Tarshiha.
Israel has claimed to have attacked 100 “terrorist targets” in Lebanon in one day, killing dozens of Hezbollah members in the process.
During the attacks on Wednesday local time, the IDF say they managed to “eliminate” the launcher used in a rocket barrage which killed a 24-year-old man in the Israeli city of Ma’alot Tarshiha.
Posting about the attack on social media, the IDF shared footage of the operation which showed multiple explosions.
“Over the past day, the forces of Division 146 continued their activity in the area of southern Lebanon, located weapons and attacked dozens of terrorist targets, including anti-tank launching positions and military buildings,” the IDF posted to X.
“Air force aircraft identified and attacked Hezbollah terrorist squads.”
The IDF also posted footage of a Hezbollah fighter hiding under a truck.
On Thursday, Lebanon Prime Minister Najib Mikati said he was “cautious optimistic” ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel would soon be announced.
“We are doing our best … to have a ceasefire within the coming hours or days,” Mikati said during a televised interview with Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed.
The move comes just days after Hezbollah named a new boss.
Naim Qassem – an ageing terrorist who gave a chilling speech earlier this month vowing to fight on – is replacing Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israel last month during air strikes on Beirut.
In a statement announcing the transition, Hezbollah said: “God Almighty has spoken the truth.
“ … the Hezbollah Shura agreed to elect His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem as Secretary-General of Hezbollah, carrying the blessed banner in this march, asking God Almighty.”
Qassem addressed Hezbollah on October 8 following Nasrallah’s death.
