Live coverage: Latest updates on the coronavirus outbreak

A man and a woman have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Queensland after recently travelling overseas, bringing the state total to 13.

The coronavirus continues to spread worldwide and authorities prepare for the announcement of a pandemic.

 

 

The Italian government has closed schools and universities nationwide until mid-March, as the country's death toll reaches more than 100 and its daily cases overtook China's.

In the United States, similar action is being considered in Washington state, with authorities considering the possibility of having to teach students online as the state's death toll reached 10. America's first death outside of Washington was confirmed on Thursday morning, bringing the US death toll to 11, and prompting government in California - where the country's 11th death occurred - to announce a statewide emergency. 

Closer to home, Australia's chief medical officer has warned that the worst case scenario for Australia is "millions of people being infected over a period of several weeks", which comes as the government announced a ban on travel to South Korea.
