JK Rowling writes to shooting victim Cassidy Stay
THE Harry Potter author has penned an extraordinary letter to a young girl who survived a tragic shooting that took her entire family.
A TEXAS teen, the sole survivor of a family shooting, has received a heartfelt letter from Harry Potter author, JK Rowling.
The Telegraph UK has reported that after seeing victim and Harry Potter fan, Cassidy Stay, quote the popular character, Dumbledore, at her family’s memorial, Rowling was moved to send the teen a heartfelt letter.

The letter was penned in purple ink and in the voice of Dumbledore.
Rowling also posted a wand, an acceptance letter to Harry Potter’s school Hogwarts, a list of school supplies and a signed book.

JK Rowlings camp has not revealed exactly what was in the letter.
“We can confirm that J.K. Rowling was in touch with Cassidy Stay, however, the contents of the letter remain private,” an unidentified spokesman for the author told The Telegraph UK.
Three days after the shooting Cassidy spoke at her family’s memorial and quoted; “Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Cassidy’s parents and four siblings were killed on July 9, when their uncle entered their house demanding to know where his ex-wife, Melanie, was.
Melanie was the sister of Cassidy’s mother, Katie Stay.
When they wouldn’t tell him, he tied up all the members of the family and shot them dead.
Cassidy who was hit in the finger by a bullet, which also grazed her skull, played dead until he left and then called 911 to warn them that he was on his way to kill her grandparents.
The young girl has been praised by many for her bravery and quick thinking which saved the life of her grandparents.
Her uncle, Ronald Haskell, 33, has been charged with capital murder.
