Jihadi Vogue opens new front in the war on terror organisation ISIS

AS ISIS continues to mobilise on Twitter on YouTube, spoof accounts are returning fire with satire. No one is sacred. Not even Kimye’s baby daughter.

SOLDIERS fighting a holy war can now rely on a new bible: Jihadi Vogue.

But while the “Style Quran” for the average mujahedeen explains “why khaki is back” and “fashion tips for the caliphate” to “dress for success”, of course it’s not what it seems.

This is one publication that readers are not expected to slavishly follow.

It is, in fact, aimed at poking fun at the rise of the earnest jihadist group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and seems to be part of a new front in the war on terror.

Posted on Twitter by the user @abuwaheeb, a spoof account for the ISIS main commander in Iraq, it is one of a number of posts that counteracts the social media campaign of terrorists. ISIS’s use of Twitter and YouTube has been sophisticated, even leading to the war in Syria and Iraq being described as the Twitter jihad.

The group and its members are profilic tweeters, posting propaganda glorifying their acts and have built a strong online following. They post videos of atrocities and have even released an Android app.

Australian terrorist Khaled Sharrouf has become notorious for his Twitter posts, with fresh photos released overnight of battlefield executions.

But those on the other side of the Twitter jihad are increasingly turning to humour to cut through the rhetoric:

Another prominent “brother” in the fight is @CaliphIbrahim, which is the spoof account for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who named himself Caliph of the self-proclaimed Islamic State in the western Iraq and north-eastern Syria.

Even Kanye’s baby is not safe:

He also helpfully cleared up confusion about whether he was wearing a flashy Swiss-made Rolex watch during a video.
