The deputy chief of Britain’s Royal Air Force has been suspended over claims he flashed his bottom at his neighbours.

Air Marshal Andrew Turner, 54, allegedly stood naked in the garden at his £1.4 million ($A2.6 million) home in south ast England, The Sun reported.

Sources said he was quizzed by police after a neighbour accused the ex-special forces commander of exposing himself by mooning at them.

Simon Herbert, 54, his partner Lesley Stevens, 52, and another family member said they were “shocked and disgusted” by the incident.

It is claimed the married dad-of-two was seen by the neighbours last August naked in the garden of his £1.4m ($AU2.66m) cottage near Caversham, Berkshire, 70kms west of central London.

A source said: “Turner’s neighbour saw him watching him and his family from his garden. He was on his own land but he was naked. He bared his backside at Simon.”

The ex-special forces commander, who has been tipped to become the next Royal Air Force (RAF) chief, was “suspended from duty” after reporting the police investigation to his boss Chief Air Marshal Mike Wigston.

A message to all RAF station commanders two weeks ago said Turner had “stepped back due to a personal matter”.

He was believed to have been served a community resolution order last Thursday and had to apologise in writing to the family.

The source added: “They received a letter on Friday but it was one line. It wasn’t even an apology.”

Thames Valley Police would not comment but the RAF confirmed the investigation.
