The previously unseen footage shows police struggling to control the crowds amid chaotic scenes, reports The Sun.
Fireworks are thrown and a woman somewhere in the mass of bodies can be heard screaming: “You mustn’t touch me! You mustn’t touch me!”
Occasionally bright flashes from fireworks being set off in the packed square light up the crowd as it surges back and forth while police in riot helmets struggle to maintain order.
More than 1000 criminal complaints were filed after the New Year’s celebrations in the western German city turned notoriously sour, with many relating to sexual assaults.
Women told of being attacked, groped or robbed by large groups of men amid the chaos.
Police reports revealed complaints from alleged victims about being surrounded by gangs of males who tried to forcibly put their hands inside their clothing.
Many of the attackers were reported to be of Arab and North African appearance, prompting fears of repeats in the country which has seen an influx in the numbers of migrants arriving.
Around 1.1 million people arrived in Germany in 2015, with its status as the EU’s economic powerhouse making it one of the most popular destinations for migrants seeking a new life.
Detective Superintendent Thomas Schulte, heading up the police probe, told the BBC 159 suspects had been investigated.
Around two-thirds of them were Algerian or Moroccan nationals, with almost all of them being new arrivals, Supt Schulte revealed.
Police have reportedly trawled through more than a thousand hours of CCTV footage but have apparently found it difficult to positively identify many of the perpetrators.
Nobody has yet been convicted for any sexual crimes relating to the attacks, with the first case brought against one of the alleged attackers being thrown out earlier this week.
A judge ruled it couldn’t be proven that a 26-year-old Algerian man actually took part in any sexual assaults.
Worryingly, there have been a number of similar incidents around Germany since the recent influx of migrants, as well as in other European countries.
A group of around 30 Afghan men are reported to have chased petrified teenage girls through a shopping mall in the northern city of Kiel before clashing with police.
And in the nearby town of Norderstedt, the local swimming pool has decided to segregate men and women after asylum seekers allegedly sexually assaulted young girls on the centre’s water slide.
