Serial rapist who sent a string of poison pen letters to one of his victims from his prison cell is let off with a warning
HE HAS been jailed for abusing seven women, but that hasn’t stopped this serial rapist from sending disgusting letters to one of his victims.
A SERIAL rapist who admitted sending vile letters to one of his victims from his jail cell has been let off with a slap on the wrist.
Gerry McMurray — who is serving eight-and-a-half years — branded his ex Heather Ratcliffe a liar in twisted letters as soon as he was locked up in 2014, reports The Sun.
The 36-year-old subjected Heather, who was then aged 17, to months of torment by raping, beating and holding her against her will.
She escaped after piecing together a phone he had smashed and calling for help.
In one letter, pretending to be another prisoner, he wrote: “Hey ya lyer, if ye are trying to get my mate the jail when you know he didn’t f***ing rape you well he is demanding the court do a lie detector test so he can prove you did lie and he didn’t rape you ya lyin dafty.”
McMurray, from Fife, in Scotland, was jailed for a 16-year-campaign of abuse against seven women — and a lifelong restriction order could keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.
He was given a warning when he admitted sending the letters at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on March 25.
Last night, Heather, 26, who has waived her anonymity, told the Daily Record: “What is that worth? It’s nothing.
“It just gives him the chance to do it again.
“The justice system is a joke. Yet again, the victims are overlooked and it’s all about the offenders.”
