22 people now confirmed dead after explosion at Ariana Grande concert

GEORGINA Callander, a girl who “lit up the room” has been named as the first victim of the horror carnage at an Ariana Grande concert.

The 18-year-old was reported missing but friends have since confirmed she died in hospital.

She is one of 22 killed by an explosion at the gig in Manchester, which also injured 59.

In a heartbreaking final tweet, Georgina wrote of her excitement to see Grande live in concert.

In response to an Instagram post Grande shared on Twitter, Georgina commented “SO EXCITED TO SEE U TOMORROW”.

Her Instagram account shows the pair together at one of Grande’s earlier concerts.

The Sun reports friends left tributes on her social media pages, with one writing, “I’m so lucky to have met you and known you”.

English actor and singer Sean Maguire paid tribute to Georgina, affectionately known as Gina, on his Twitter.

“Just met this girl in April. She was so young & sweet. She was killed last night Manchester. My love to her and all the families of the victims,” he said.

Another friend described Gina as “a beautiful girl with the kindest heart & soul” and many strangers have posted heartfelt messages on her final tweet.

Indian-Canadian actress and singer Karen David also met Gina recently at a fan event and left a tribute on the Instagram page.

“I’m deeply saddened to hear that this sweet, and beautiful lady, Georgina, who I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to for awhile, only a couple of weeks ago at #SBUK3 was one of the innocent victims in tonight’s atrocity in Manchester.,” she wrote.

“It’s not fair, it’s not right. It makes me so angry and it breaks my heart that such a young and promising life has been stolen away!

“But I refuse to give in to hatred. I continue to choose love. I continue to choose unity because when we join together, we are strong! We will not be afraid. Dearest Georgina, may your kind soul rest in peace. Heaven has gained an angel...My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and your friends.”

There are still many teenagers missing. Parents who managed to reach their loved-ones after the bomb attack were seen hugging and crying their offspring. Others were searching across the city after the injured were taken to six hospitals around the city.

Two loud bangs in the foyer sent hordes of teenagers running out at the concert’s end, with some witnesses saying they saw smoke, blood and “body parts” in the venue.

Hospitals were reportedly calling in extra staff to be ready for a “rush of patients”, with North West Ambulance Service asking people to “only call us for life threatening emergencies at this time.”

Manchester Evening News reported that children holding pink balloons were being led away from the scene, and that people were leaving Manchester Royal Infirmary in tears, too upset to talk, some desperately trying to find family members.
