Unvaccinated teen dies of Covid-19 within weeks of infection

Breanna Gray was a regular, healthy teen before contracting Covid-19. She died of the disease two weeks later.

A US mum has spoken of her deep regret over not insisting her family get vaccinated after her 19-year-old daughter died of Covid.

Texan teen Breanna Gray spent two weeks in hospital before her symptoms worsened on the morning of August 19. Just a few hours later, she was dead.

The 19-year-old shared her fear on Snapchat after being transferred to the intensive care unit at the hospital, Fox News reported.

In one photo shared from her hospital bed, she encouraged her friends to not “take Covid for a joke” because “it[’s] real”.

In another, she asked friends to pray for her.

“I have [a] long road of recovery. Idk [I don’t know] when I’ll be ab[le] to even leave ICU so keep praying for me please,” she wrote.

Ms Gray was intubated and wearing an oxygen mask in the latter Snapchat, and her face appeared exhausted.

Her whole household contracted the virus, with Ms Gray testing positive on July 31 and being admitted to hospital a week later.

Her mum Tabitha told Fox News her daughter had no underlying health conditions and was perfectly healthy before she contracted the virus.

“We never thought it would happen. I never thought my baby would go before me,” the heartbroken mum said.

No one in the family was vaccinated at the time – something the mum said she deeply regretted.

“I feel like it’s my fault … I should have forced it,” she said.

“I shouldn’t have let other people in my head or life get to me … I should have done what I needed to do to protect my family.”

Ms Gray was weeks away from beginning her college studies and had hoped to one day own a salon.

Her mum said not being able to comfort her daughter in her final moments was “the worst feeling in the entire world”.

They shared a phone call shortly before Ms Gray died. She said that her daughter was terrified during the call.

“You just hear her screaming through the mask for me, and that was the last time … And the last voice I heard is her yelling for me in her mask.”
