A man has made a scene inside a New York restaurant where a waiter refused to serve him and his family for not having their vaccine cards.

A heated confrontation has unfolded inside a busy US restaurant after a family gained entry to the venue without showing their mandatory vaccine paperwork.

The incident occurred inside a New York eatery, where patrons have been required to prove they had received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine since August 17.

Footage, which involved a family of black diners facing off with a white male waiter, has gone viral on Twitter.

In it, the man filming accuses the waiter of refusing to serve his family in an act that “enforces segregation”.

When asked to leave, he said: “so you’re going to enforce segregation? Because we just told you that we’re religiously exempt.”

The waiter claimed that before being seated, the man said he and his family had proof of their vaccination.

“I never told you any of that. I would never tell you that. I would never say that,” the father claimed.

He remained firm on his stance and refused to leave the restaurant, with the waiter eventually leaving the table.

The man then began yelling out to other diners, asking if they were happy with the restaurant’s attempt to follow the state government’s policy.

“Everybody in here is OK with setting segregation in society? Everybody’s OK with that? We don’t have our vaccine cards so the kids can’t eat,” he was heard saying.

He then went on an explosive rant directed at other customers, telling one to “get the f*** out of here” because he was “not American”.

“This is America, and in America everybody can eat. This is not segregation," he yelled.

Addressing staff, he said: “I told you that we're religiously exempt.”

He appeared to be referencing a halt placed on the vaccine mandate for healthcare workers, who sued over the right to a religious exemption.

A federal judge announced the pause on the same day a New York State Supreme Court judge temporarily blocking the city’s vaccine mandate.

The mandate will remain temporarily suspended until a final decision can be made in court on September 22, five days before the mandate was set to be legally enforceable.
