Covid-obsessed man living in ‘pressurised’ tent in garage because partner gave up on precautions

A hyper Covid-vigilant man has opted to live in a “pressurised” tent in his garage with an air-filter after his partner dropped precautions against the virus in their home.

Calls for ‘national royal commission’ into COVID-19 response

An Australian man and self described “Covid education activist” has caused a stir by revealing his unconventional Covid-safe sleeping arrangements.

Going by the Twitter handle @Jason_gasdive, the man claims to be sleeping in a “pressurised” tent equipped with an air filter in his garage, all because his partner allegedly dropped precautions against the Covid-19 virus.

The now-viral post shared by the account featured a picture of the peculiar tent he claims to be sleeping in, igniting a firestorm of reactions on Twitter.

Within hours, the post garnered hundreds of mixed responses, ranging from agreeance, to humour, to concern.

Despite never contracting Covid-19, Jason found himself at the centre of a social media debate as he staunchly defended his decision to maintain strict pandemic precautions.

“This is my bed in the garage because my partner has dropped precautions. I take precautions 100 per cent of the time. Don’t tell me that this hasn’t upended every f**king second of my life,” Jason declared in his original post, which included the image of his extraordinary sleeping arrangement.

Not content with just sleeping in a tent, Jason also revealed that he has experimented with sleeping in a face mask. However, he admitted that he found it uncomfortable and could not sleep properly with it.

“I’ve tried to sleep in a mask, and I can’t. I know people sleep in CPAP masks all the time, so it’s possible, but I can’t do it,” he shared on Twitter.

Amid the flurry of reactions, Jason received support from sympathetic commenters who praised his commitment to precautionary measures. One commenter even suggested leaving his partner, to which Jason replied, “This has occurred to me.”

Another Twitter user commended the tent and air filter idea, considering it a cost-effective and potentially effective solution.

“I like the tent+filter ideas (sic). It’s cheap and should be effective,” another agreed.

“Initially didn’t think much of the pic, but this is infuriating. I spend all my salary in-flo mask, enovid (antiviral nasal spray), no social life, so yes, I take precautions 100 per cent of the time,” said another.

“I’m sorry you have to live like this. I no longer see my family since they stopped masking,” another added.

However, not everyone empathised with Jason’s extreme measures.

A commenter working in senior living facilities pointed out that they had experienced minimal Covid-19 cases among elderly residents, attributing it to vaccinations and boosted immunity.

“I work in senior living, and in the two years we’ve been open, we’ve lost zero to Covid. Even the (85-year-olds) getting it now are mild cases. Why? They’re boosted, so they don’t panic or sleep in a garage,” one commenter explained.

“The vaccine is meant to enable you to live normally without worrying. Covid is endemic, so you will be in the tent for the rest of your life, lol.” posted another.

Others dismissed Jason’s behaviour as an eccentric manifestation of pandemic-induced anxiety, labelling it a “weird religion.”

As the Twitter thread gained momentum, Jason became increasingly concerned about the influx of comments and retweets, suspecting the involvement of “Russian trolls.”

Eventually, he limited the comment section, but only after hundreds of remarks and retweets slipped through.

In response to the viral post, one Twitter user humorously remarked, “We’re a few years away from a really good documentary on how this virus broke people’s brains.”

The ongoing debate surrounding Covid-19 precautions continues to highlight the diverse range of attitudes and beliefs within society.

While Australia witnessed a peak in Covid-related deaths in the week leading to May 8, with 207 fatalities, subsequent weeks showed a dramatic decline.

By the week of May 29, the number of Covid-related deaths had significantly decreased to only 49, according to data from the World Health Organisation.
