‘Very angry’: Daniel Andrews slams beachgoers
Daniel Andrews has come down hard on Melburnians who crowded beaches and has hinted they could be closed.
In his daily press conference Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has given beachgoers who crowded the shore at St Kilda last night an absolute shellacking.
He said it could mean Melburnians can‘t go to the beach for all of summer.
“Some of the scenes at beaches for instance overnight are just unacceptable,” he said this morning.
“Nobody has the right to break the rules and potentially put at risk everything that good, decent, law-abiding Victorians have built. All of the sacrifice has to be worth something. And it is just not smart and it is not fair and it is not lawful.”
The Premier said he had spoken to the Police Chief Commissioner and cops would be patrolling the beaches throughout the weekend.
“Those scenes were very disappointing. It has made a lot of people very angry because they can see just how close we are.
“Spending time at the beach without a mask, without social distancing now will just mean that you won‘t get to go to the beach for all of summer.”
He said it wasn‘t just younger people breaking the rules and his own kids were “furious” at what had occurred at St Kilda.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton backed up the Premier‘s comments and said he was also “very angry”.
“It is a bit of an insult to everyone who has done it tough for months and months and months across the state for some people to be putting all our gains at risk.”
