Live Breaking News: NSW records 38 new cases as major police operation heads to hotspots

Western Australia is turning its attention to NSW again, as the eastern state struggles with a worrying coronavirus outbreak.

NSW compliance operation will have police swarming Sydney’s southwest

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has taken aim at NSW again, admitting he was baffled by photos of Sydneysiders enjoying the outdoors - while the city is supposed to be in lockdown.

Mr McGowan said it was an "odd thing" to see, as Greater Sydney continues to grapple with a coronavirus outbreak.

"It is an odd thing, I've seen some of the images ... it's odd they're so flippant about it," the premier said.

"There are people in intensive care … some of those people may now die.

"People overwhelmingly followed the rules here (during WA's most recent lockdown) so I'd just urge people in NSW to do the same.

"NSW is going through a hard time so I don't want to kick them when they're down but Victoria went through a hard time last year and they crushed and killed the virus and came out the other side with a strong economy."

Mr McGowan then urged NSW to adopt the same approach as Victoria.
